The Lymphatic system is a second circulatory system in the body. It is a network of organs, tissues, and vessels that transports waste out of the cells, tissues and intracellular spaces. Lymphatic vessels branch out to all different areas of the body carrying white blood cells, protein and nutrients. The white blood cells recognize and remove bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, and foreign substances from the tissues and move them to the lymph nodes where they are destroyed. A good lymphatic massage during a detox program is highly beneficial.
There are new discoveries being made regarding this important system of the body. The University of Virginia Department of Neurosciences has found lymphatic vessels in the protective membranes of the brain: linking the brain and the immune system thru the lymph vessels. This could be one of the reasons why MLD has been helpful for a variety of ailments including headaches.
