Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
The Vodder method of MLD is a massage treatment that addresses the lymphatic system of the body. This is a technique recognized by physicians that can effectively reduce edema, inflammation, contusions, bruising and scar tissue formation following surgery and injury. It is part of a standard protocol for recovery from liposuction, BBLs, and other plastic surgeries. It is also very helpful for the healing of orthopedic and medical procedures, when combined with Marnitz Therapy it helps recover from dental procedures.
In addition, MLD redirects fluid from areas that are blocked by scar tissue or where lymph nodes have been removed or damaged.
MLD is recommended as soon as possible following surgery. It speeds up your recovery and reduces pain.
Because the lymph vessels are just beneath the skin this technique is GENTLE and rhythmic. It has an analgesic effect. The many benefits to MLD treatments include:
Reduction of pain, swelling and bruising
Deeply calms the nervous system
Prevents fibrosis
Assists in detoxifying the body
Increases circulation
Supports and enhances the immune system
Treatments can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes long depending on your individual needs.
THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM
MLD
The Lymphatic system is a second circulatory system in the body. It is a network of organs, tissues, and vessels that transports waste out of the cells, tissues and intracellular spaces. Lymphatic vessels branch out to all different areas of the body carrying white blood cells, protein and nutrients. The white blood cells recognize and remove bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, and foreign substances from the tissues and move them to the lymph nodes where they are destroyed. A good lymphatic massage during a detox program is highly beneficial.
There are new discoveries being made regarding this important system of the body. The University of Virginia Department of Neurosciences has found lymphatic vessels in the protective membranes of the brain: linking the brain and the immune system thru the lymph vessels. This could be one of the reasons why MLD has been helpful for a variety of ailments including headaches.
Lymphatic Massage can be combined with other types of massage to address a variety of needs
